FAQs

Am I clothed or nude?

While customers remain clothed, they can opt to remove their upper clothing in the privacy of our separate ‘cocoon treatment areas.”  Your tickle technician will wait until you are ready to enter the cocoon area. You will see a place for your blouse in your treatment area should you decide you prefer a direct touch on your back. While our pods offer you privacy with curtains, they are not private rooms, and for this reason we do not recommend dresses.

What can I expect?

A clean, pleasant environment, staff speaking in hushed, soft tones, personal attention, physical touch. These are unique ASMR infused sensory experiences bringing you the euphoric tingles of touch to relax the mind, body, and soul. As long as covid19 is a concern, all clients will have their temperature taken at reception, will be asked to use hand sanitizer, and wear a mask for the duration of the session, as do all our staff. We do not offer massage, no facials, no hot rocks, no chemicals or lotions and absolutely no illicit services. Anyone asking for such will be asked to leave.

There is an armrest you can lean on, with a series of pillows to adjust their height that you are free to use.

What are your hygiene protocols?

As long as covid19 is a concern, all clients will have their temperature taken at reception, will be asked to use hand sanitizer, and wear a mask for the duration of the session, as do all our staff. Any equipment or tools are sanitized with FCC and ETL approved UV Light Sanitization boxes. New medical hygiene paper is placed on any high touch surfaces between clients.

What if I am ticklish?

Don’t worry. We are sensitive to each clients needs. We want to know if you want or need a firmer touch, or a lighter one. The goal at the Tickle Bar is NOT to torture clients with a rough, harsh jabbing tickle, but rather to evoke relaxation with long, slow, light touches. We use a variety of strokes and techniques and you can communicate which brings you the most sigh inducing goosebumps. We are here to relieve stress, not create it. So while we usually begin with the concept of gently tracing with feathers and fingertips, if this makes you squirm in a way you don’t like, we want to know, and we will happily adjust.

I have a child with special needs. Are they appropriate customers for the Tickle Bar?

We recognize that many of the techniques we use are calming and relaxing for many on the spectrum. We are happy to treat your child as long as the parent or legal guardian is present.

What the heck is ASMR?

ASMR is something we will be combining more and more of in our experiences. IT signifies the subjective experience of “low-grade euphoria” characterized by “a combination of positive feelings and a distinct static-like tingling sensation on the skin”. It is most commonly triggered by specific auditory or visual stimuli, and less commonly by intentional attention control. This is a new field named around 2010. In 2010, Jennifer Allen, a participant in an online forum, proposed that the phenomenon be named “autonomous sensory meridian response”. Allen chose the words intending or assuming them to have the following specific meanings:

  • Autonomous – spontaneous, self-governing, with or without control
  • Sensory – about the senses or sensation
  • Meridian – signifying a peak, climax, or point of highest development
  • Response – referring to an experience triggered by something external or internal

Allen verified in a 2016 interview that she purposely selected these terms because they were more objective, comfortable, and clinical than alternative terms for the sensation.[13] In that interview, Allen explained she selected the word meridian to replace the word orgasm and said she had found a dictionary that defined meridian as “a point or period of highest development, greatest prosperity, or the like”.[13][14]
